It was renamed from Maruti Udyog Limited to Maruti Suzuki India Limited on 17 September 2007.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is the number car producing company in India ad Nepal, in terms of capacity of producing vehicles and revenue earned. Initially it was a joint collaboration between the Indian Government and Suzuki Motors of Japan, and has an 18.28 to 54.2%. But in May 2007, Govt. of India sold its entire shares to Indian Financial Institutes, so the Govt. doesn’t have any stake in Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

The manufacturing facilities of Maruti Suzuki India Limited are located in Gurgaon and Manesar of South Delhi and have a capacity of producing 350,000 units per year. The Manesar plant was established in February 2007 and has a capacity of 100,000 units per vehicle of the assembly plant and diesel engine plant with capacity of 100,000. Maruti Suzuki India Limited has contributed a lot to the Indian car industry. They have produced cars in different varieties and costs so that any one can afford to buy a car of their convenience. It is one of the best car producing companies in India and till date it is No1 and no other company has been able to take its place in the Indian car industry.
