Luxury should not come at the price of practicality and neither should practicality come at the cost of luxury when it comes to automobiles. One such automobile manufacturing company that seems to understand the above mentioned statement in full is Hyundai. The evident proof of this fact is the Hyundai Elantra, a car that the company has developed along the lines of practical luxury. Known as India’s first performance luxury sedan the car is unique in many ways. Firstly it sports a 1.8 liter DOHC 16 Valve Beta engine and the other variant a 2.0 liter turbo intercooled CRDi engine. To compliment the performance of these powerful engines it has got an equally good look on the outside and a touch of clash with the plush upholstery on the inside. The Indian public has accepted the Hyundai Elantra hands down as what it claims to be. The car was first released in Korea in the year 1991 as a competitor to the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. It was also a step taken to refute the claims of poor car designs made against the company. Hyundai took on the challenge to produce a car along the lines of European standards and the revamped Hyundai Elantra was launched in India in the year 2004.The car has a petrol engine that is fitted with multi point fuel injection system. Coupled with the advanced microprocessor it provides for optimization of the fuel. Available in both petrol and diesel Hyundai has offered the public the chance to choose whichever of the two suits their purpose. Since diesel is cheaper than petrol it is bound to be more fuel efficient. The most common problem of noise in diesel engines is greatly reduced in the Hyundai Elantra because of the use of CRDi which injects pressurized fuel into the engine resulting in dubbing the sound of the engine. The gas filled shock absorbers and coil springs along with the McPherson stuts give the car stability as well as easy maneuverability.Put the brakes on this one and you will find them to be extremely powerful. The Hyundai Elantra has an Electronic Brake Force Distribution System. This distributes the braking force between the front and rear. It also has pretension seat belts that safeguard the passengers in case of a collision. Overall the Hyundai Elantra comes across as a fresh alternative to the run of the mill luxury cars in the Indian market.
