The second SUV that was fully designed and built by the Japanese auto firm Honda was the Honda Pilot. It was originally released in the year 2002 as a 2003 model vehicle. The Honda Pilot is constructed in the cities of Lincoln, Alabama in the United States of America and Alliston, Ontario in Canada.

For many years, Honda’s initial offering in the SUV market was the Honda Passport. This vehicle was essentially a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo. In those instances where the Passport was a truck based vehicle, it effectively replaced the extended wheelbase EX trim of the Honda Passport. The Honda Pilot shares a number of underpinnings as well as the power train with the Acura MDX. Its lineage can be traced back to the minivan known as the Honda Odyssey. The unibody construction of the Honda Pilot, on the other hand, is fortified with integrated perimeter frame rails. Such rails help it withstand light off road usage. The Honda Pilot was designed with an eye for filling the massive demand for SUVs in the United States of America. Before the Honda Pilot had been introduced, the only SUV Honda had was the smaller CR V, which had been based on the Honda Civic, as well as the aforementioned Passport.
