The German Automotive Giant produced this particular Roadster ( BMW Z8 ) from 1999-2003. Codenamed E52, the Z8 was the production model of the concept car ( BMW Z07 ). This was designed by famous Henrik Fisker of BMW’s US plant. Originally designed to celebrate the 507, this car found its way into production after having a tremendous response in the 1997 Tokyo Auto Show. Only 5703 Z8s were ever made, making it an extremely desired model among collectors and BMW fans worldwide. The prototype Z07 was designed keeping in mind it’s feasibility as a production car. The roadster had an all-aluminum chassis and body. At its heart was a beastly 4.9l 32 valve V8 capable of delivering 400 hp under optimal conditions. The same engine powered the famous E39 or popularly M5. Cleverly located behind the front-axle, the engine provided the car a 50/50 weight distribution. It had a 0-100 speed of 4.7 seconds. It surpassed all other contemporary sport cars in every aspect. The Ferrari 360 Modena, considered as a benchmark setter in its days was easily surpassed by the Z8. This raised a few eyebrows among the performance car category. BMW had to electronically lock the car to 250 kmph to ensure road safety, unlocked it could easily top 300 kmph.In 2003 BMW revealed its final Z8, the AlpinaV8 Roadster. This was a rather disappointing downgrade as the manufacturer shifted to a less powerful 4.8l V8 with even worse Automatic Gearbox by Alpina. This was destined for disaster and the car soon ended its production life. This only made the older BMW Z8 even more collectible.Bmw z8
