The BMW 5 Series is iconic in the sense that it is synonymous with the start of a tradition in BMW to name its car models or their versions with three digit numbers instead of names. The three digit numbers in itself is very unique. The first number being the model number and the preceding two numbers denote the size or capacity of the engine. There are additional letters or alphabets after the three digit number; these letters signify the engine type, body style or other details of the car.
